As a Saxophone and Clarinet player Nigel was a member of the Grenadier Guards Band based in London taking part in every major State Occasion from 1980 – 2006 including 25 Trooping the Colour ceremonies, A keen sportsman he took up Football Refereeing in 1986 and was officiating at very senior level by 1991. Yvonne on the other hand is an accomplished cabaret singer and as such has worked in many venues in the UK. She is also holds a black belt in Karate.

Kevin Holt joined them as the Concert Chairman in the autumn of 2006 and the afternoon club, now called the Cumberland Ex-Servicemen’s Club, was launched in January 2007. Membership now stands at almost 700. The Blackpool Reunion was initiated in 2008 and last year over 250 members made the journey for a weekend of fun.

Nigel & Yvonne have owned the Cumberland bar for the past 4 years. Prior to that Nigel served over 26 years in the Army and Yvonne worked as a commissioning manager within the National Health Service for 22 years..
