Costa war hero awarded prestigious Malaysian medal
A BRITISH war hero living in Benidorm has been awarded a prestigious medal from the Malayan government.
David Soller served in Malaysia and Borneo in 1964 on an aircraft carrier, when he was just 17.
He was one of just 300 people in Spain to receive the Punjat Malaysia Medal, which commemorates those who served in the Far East between 1957 and 1966.
The event was held earlier this month in the Cumberland Bar in David’s home town, Benidorm, where he has lived with his wife and son for four years.
His well-deserved medal was presented by Nigel Turner, former Grenadian Guards’ member and now owner of the bar.
Hosting the event was Peter Padley, MBE.
“The bar was packed to capacity with friends and well-wishers,” reveals a proud David.
Despite having fought for his country as a teenager, David is far from ready to spend his new life in the sun in relaxed retirement. He now works for Green Tours organising free trips for the public.
